Darrell Dean, host of "The Dean's List" on WYCA Rejoice 102.3 FM, is a South Suburban resident who created a show to promote community togetherness Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Dean told the Suburban Marquee that he wants to empower and inform his audience through his show.

"What makes 'The Dean's List' radio show unique is that it brings everyday knowledge to our listeners every Wednesday night dealing with business entrepreneurs, creativity, health, community [and] worship," Dean said. "This show will awaken your mind, body and soul."

Dean strives to do his best in his endeavors, and that doing so has helped him succeed in his career. He also places a high priority on participating in the community around him.

"I've been raised to be a part of the community. My mom is an author and educator that kept us in her Sparrow reading and writing club," he said. "Also, my family has a strong political connection, including my twin brother, who was mayor of Riverdale [Illinois], and myself, a business owner that has pride in hiring from within our communities."

While service to the community is important to Dean, there is a higher power he looks to for inspiration in his acts of service.

"First and foremost, I serve God and how I do that is by giving him praise and worship," Dean said. "I also serve my community by making it better with employment, civic duty, and counseling our youth and job training."

Dean said that he wants people in the community to know he cares and that they should tune in to his show to be informed and enlightened.

Dean also has a Facebook page, where he posts live recordings from his show and information about upcoming guests and topics.
