Fall festivities are back in town in Homewood as the 19th annual Fall Fest returns this month.

The festival will kick off at noon on Saturday, Sept. 25 and go until 9 PM on Martin Avenue between Ridge and Hickory Road.

“Homewood Fall Fest is my favorite event of the year,” Village President Rich Hofeld told the Chicago Defender in 2019. “We like to offer festival goers new activities each year to keep things exciting while maintaining things like the chili cook-off that are such a crowd pleaser!"

Residents are welcomed to enjoy an array of activities, including live entertainment, horse-drawn wagon rides through downtown, games, craft vendors, a pumpkin patch, children’s crafts and food prepared by local businesses, according to the village website.

Beginning at 2 PM, attendees are invited to participate in the festival's annual chili cook off event, as contestants compete to become "Homewood's Top Chef" and raise money for a local nonprofit. Participants receive a bowl and spoon to sample the chili dishes with a donation of $5 to the Homewood Flossmoor Performing Arts Council.

This year's guest judges will include Jay Zawaski and Rick Camp of the "I'm Fat Podcast", a post on the village's Facebook page announced.
