Investors looking to connect with startup companies in Africa can learn more about opportunities in an online seminar called Doing Business With Africa.

The seminar will take place Thursday, April 8, from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. EDT.

Hosted by the National Urban League of Young Professionals and the U.S. Black Chamber of Commerce, the seminar educates attendees on avoiding issues and overcoming risks connected with cross-border deals. African investors, entrepreneurs, and transaction advisers provide business advice on how to make a career transition to Africa and how to source and win contracts.

Kevin Morrison

"The world outside of your comfort zone is a wonderful place," Kevin Morrison, founder of the Morrison Group, told The Suburban Marquee. "I stayed in my comfort zone far too long, and it is one of my regrets due to the fact that I lost time pursuing my ultimate goal, which has been freedom. The freedom to create jobs, the freedom to learn the truth about Africa, the freedom to see my mother whenever I wanted without the fear of losing my job for taking too much time off as I was the job."

Morrison is a Strategic Partner at VentureLift Africa which is facilitating the seminar with VLA Capital Advisors and Global SouthXSouth Consulting.

The Morrison Group is a diversified company with interests in agriculture, training, hair care and business consulting, according to Morrison's LinkedIn profile. The benefit of a diversified business portfolio, he writes, has provided exposure to fast-growing developing markets in Africa. Morrison initially traveled to Ghana, Burkina Faso & Nigeria as a member of the African & Caribbean Business Council-sponsored trade mission starting in 2012.

He has since traveled to Kenya, Eswatini (Swaziland), Botswana and South Africa individually and as a member of sponsored trade groups. The focus of these journeys has been to forge stronger business and cultural relationship with the U.S.

Not only is Morrison doing big things in Africa, but he's also working on building an Aquaponics Farm at the Calumet Country Club redevelopment site to serve the community and support local businesses. Morrison is hopeful that this opportunity will be happening in the future in more places than at the local level.

"When given the opportunity to start this project in Kenya, I promised we will give the residence of access to more local opportunities and opportunities all over the world!" Morrison said.

Morrison is passionate about ending the stigmas associated with countries in Africa by sharing about the people, culture and business opportunities. He also loves encouraging other entrepreneurs to dive into the unknown.

'I would encourage all those that seek success to make sure they are comfortable with being different," Morrison said. "There will be times when self-doubt and the doubt of others will test you. You will question your decisions and lose sight of the big picture."
